Q: What is your writing process like?
A: Good question. Since I’m not as systematic as some writers, I can’t give a definitive answer. I tend to write more in the wee hours of the night, but I believe that’s a habit I developed in college, procrastinating on homework assignments. I map out an entire novel before starting, but I end up tossing the map to the side a lot. I write long hand first. I write a chapter, then type it up on the computer. Then another chapter long hand, then back to the computer. I’m addicted to the freedom of writing anytime, anywhere. I’ve written at the beach, on a plane, at the barbershop, the Laundromat, during family gatherings, you name it. I don’t need “peace and quiet” to write; just don’t talk to me. Oh, and this may be odd—so far, I’ve decided on the title of every book I’ve written before writing the first word! |
